Recently, the rate at which people are coming down with kidney disease is increasingly alarming. Alot of people are suffering from this in United States  and if we don't begin to look at what can be done to avoid this from happening to us or anybody around us,that means we don't care for our health and we are not wise because the agony and pain associated with kidney disease is too much for any human being to bear and you won't wish yourself to have such disease.

Briefly ,what is Kidney and it's functions

         Kidney is a major organ of excretion in the body and plays a vital role in osmo-regulation,it excretes toxins ,waste products out of the body such as end products of metabolism e.g urea and creatinine and also end product of drug metabolism .

When all these waste products are not excreted out the body ,they becomes toxic to the body .This happens when their is problem with the functions of the kidney resulting into inadequate or proper excretion.This can be either acute kidney failure or chronic kidney failure.

 
There are some disease conditions that can cause this kidney failure,example of them are hypertension, diabetes , obesity ,smoking and age.

Signs and Symptoms to watch out for in early kidney disease:
  • You will notice frequent urination
  • Foaming of urine
  • Back pain expecially close to lower rib 
  • Blood in the urinext known as haematuria
  • Protein in urine known as proteinuria 
Late Signs and Symptoms are:
  • Tiredness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea and vomiting 
  • Feeling unwell
  • Loss of Appetite 
At this stage the kidney has failed and the  person can either undergoes haemodialysis and the frequency depends on how badly the kidneys have been damaged, or the person goes for kidney transplant. 

Our aim of writing this article is to get you acquitted with safety measures that you can put to practice to safeguard your kidney from kidney diseases.

Tips on how to safeguard your kidney from failure
  • Check regular your blood pressure, increase of blood pressure beyond normal can damage your kidney,if your blood pressure is raised,start lowering it immediately  first by using non drug method through exercise and diet with lifestyle modification.Using drugs like aspirin , statins etc to lower high blood pressure has been to damage the kidney. When non drug method does not work,consult your doctor for better and safer prescription.Don't self prescribe ,you may damaged your kidney with wrong prescription 
  • When you notice the signs and symptoms of diabetes e.g frequent urination, regular thirst etc,please do go for blood glucose  test (fasting blood glucose test) to know whether you are diabetic or not.if confirm, please begin to control the glucose level immediately, preferably through exercise and diet with lifestyle modification,if it fails, you can consult your doctor for safer prescription,don't self prescribe ,you may damage your kidney with wrong prescription.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol intake
  • Avoid stress or manage it very well as much as you can and find time to relax
  • Very important that you avoid all forms of toxins,regular exercise and eat balance diets ,take plenty water each day ,all these will keep your kidney healthy
  • Ensure that you maintain healthy weight and this can be achieved through lifestyle modification and diet with regular exercise.
  • As much as you can,stay away from sugar,carbonated drinks,artificial sweeteners and forms of processed and salty foods.
  • Drink only pure filtered water as much as possible in a day (several glasses of water)
  • Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables
 

FOODS THAT CAN HELP REDUCE THE RISK OF KIDNEY DISEASE

Fruits and Vegetables : Eating fruits and vegetables will help you to increase the function of your kidney.

Examples of fruits include;
Grapes
Cranberries
Blueberries

Examples of Vegetables include:
Fennel
Onions
Celery
Beets
Spinach
String beans
Asparagus.

Low potassium foods:
Apples
Beans
Corn
Rice
Noodles
Pasta
Eggplant
Pears
Peas
Peppers
Zucchini.
Iron-rich foods

In conclusion, it's very important to constantly check the functionality of your kidney to actually know the state of your kidney,it's a silent killer that you may not know if you are actually having a kidney disease because the signs and symptoms sometimes may not be obvious at the early stage, but when you go for kidney checkups with a simple test known as  kidney function test in the Medical laboratory   ,it will reveal the status of your kidney.Treatment becomes effective when it's diagnosed early.
