The wish of every pregnant woman is to have a safe delivery, enjoy almost painless labor and deliver their baby vaginally . Most pregnant women dread the experience of labor because of what they have heard about labor and delivery, some have even followed a pregnant woman to delivery suite or labor ward and seen the ugly scene of delivery and what the fellow women pass through while delivering ,hence this has created a lot of fear into their heart especially the first time mother.

I have good news for you that it's possible to actually not pass through what others have gone through or even probably you have had such experience before ,your next delivery can be better ,almost painless labor , without complications and medical interventions but with ease in vaginal delivery.

This article will be revealing to you steps to take to actually bring you kind of labor and delivery experience you want to have in your next delivery.

To achieve safe delivery, you must come to term with this truth that the journey to this doesn't begin towards the end of third trimester, it begins right from the first trimester through the pregnancy period till the delivery day.

 
 
THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE DELIVERY DAY

1) YOU MUST BE FIT

Reasons why many pregnant women need medical intervention during labor is because they can't endure or tolerate pain. When you get engaged in exercise during your pregnancy period, it will increase your endurance level and prepare you for the day of your labor and delivery ,it will lessen how much you feel the pain of labor.

Some of these exercises include swimming, walking and you can also enrol in prenatal exercise class. Don't forget to do your kegal exercise with vigor for this will help your pelvis and thigh muscles stronger enough to withstand the stress of labor during delivery.

One of the major reasons while doctors decide to go for C-section is because fatigue has set in on the thigh muscles and she could not push further during labour ,due to kegal exercise you can strengthen the thigh muscle, other exercise that can also help the thigh muscle is squatting and other lower body exercise.

2) CORRECTLY POSITIONING YOUR BABY

This concept helps the baby to be rightly positioned in the mother ,in which the baby will face the back of the mother before the labor begins . One of the reasons why a mother experience intense pain during labor with slower labor is when the back of the head of the baby is pressing on the tailbone of the mother.
Baby in this position will need the assistance of forceps or vacuum extraction for the baby to be born. Sometimes the baby will be delivered through C-section.

For you to have your baby correctly positioned ,take time every day to sit uprightly and then lean forward slightly ,you can also kneel on the floor and then slightly lean towards a couch,do this daily for about 30minutes and you can have your baby facing your back, which is a good position for your delivery.You can begin this at the 34 weeks of your gestation till your delivery day.

3) DO REGULAR MASSAGE

During your pregnancy, endeavour to go for regular massage,it plays important role in relaxing tight muscles during labor and also those muscle that are being massaged regularly tend to relax quickly following after contraction during labor and allow a longer rest between contractions.

4) ENROL IN CHILDBIRTH CLASS

Find around your area where childbirth class is taken and enrol there. Information is the key, there is away your mind can be prepared for your delivery and when the time comes for labor you are set and you are acquitted with the childbirth stages, this will make labor easier. It is so certain that with adequate information, you will be less worried and anxious.

5) GET A DOULA READY

A doula is a person that stays with you during labor ,provide encouragement for you and tell you to focus on your breath and the best position for labor . Research has shown that women that had the support of a doula during labor have 50 percent chances of no need of C-section and 30 percent chances of no need of pain medication. Don't start looking for a doula when you have started your labor, get them ready ,discuss with your doctor about it ahead of time ,your husband may not be able to do a perfect work like trained doula.

6) PRACTICE RIGHT BREATHING TECHNIQUES

Practicing a correct breathing technique during pregnancy can actually help you during labor and it causes the baby to cooperate with you because the baby will have access to adequate oxygen because of right breathing techniques and it will grow better in the womb and full of energy. All these add up to safe and ease labor and delivery.

 
7) REGULAR PERINEAL MASSAGE

This is the massaging of your vaginal tissue which stretches it. You can do this by yourself by inserting your thumb into your vaginal ,massage and pull it towards the 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock area .Do this regular, as you do this you are preparing the place for the passage of the head of your baby.it will also prevent tearing during delivery as you push your baby to the world.

THINGS TO DO WHEN LABOR STARTS

1) STAY AT HOME AS MUCH AS YOU CAN

If you don't have any kind of medical conditions during your pregnancy period, it's better to stay at home for as much as you can, at home you have enough space to walk around, eat and drink what you want. Allow the contraction to progress until you see it becoming a minute longer and it's coming up at about 3 to 5mins intervals. Doing this will reduce the time you will go and stay in the hospital for your delivery. Other things you can as well do while at home as the contraction progresses is taking a shower, it will reduce the intensity of the pain you are going through.

Get in to the bath tub if you have one ,sit for a while , it will also help you, you can change positions as the water is cooling your body and reducing pain of labour.It has been discovered that it causes the release of oxytocin which help the contraction and dilation. Pregnant women have sat on it and they don't need any pain medication for labor pain and they delivered with ease.
2) CONTACT YOUR DOULA

Immediately you begin to sense your contraction, call you doula to come around and because is a trained person ,she can actually guide you on what to be doing even right from home till you go to hospital for delivery.

3) ENGAGE YOURSELF IN POSITIVE THINKING

Focus your mind on beautiful thoughts, it could be wonderful experience you have had in the past ,it could be amusement period of your life. Even joy of motherhood, excitement of seeing you baby.If you are a Christian ,keep meditating on God's word and speak in tongues.It is not the time to start abusing your husband.

4) BE STRESS FREE WHILE IN LABOR

This may look difficult but it's possible, you can make this possible during your labor if you have been able to keep a stress free mind during your pregnancy. Having stress free pregnancy is a conscious effort to take away from you anything that can cause you to be stressed.

If you are able to achieve this during pregnancy, then when labor starts ,it will be easy for you to be without stress. The reason why you cannot allow stress during your labor is that it reduces the production of a hormone called oxytocin which plays important role in contraction, if stress causes this to reduce in production ,hence reduction in contraction thereby prolong your labor which can result in fatigue for the mother there by resulting into medical intervention and this can lead to C-section. Prolong labor is also dangerous for both the mother and the baby, hence do yourself and your baby good by avoiding stress .

5) DON'T LIE DOWN 

As the labor progresses ,try as much as possible not to lie down, you can keep changing positions ,from standing to kneeling, squatting ,these will allow the baby head to press on your cervix causing it to dilate .As you are moving along and around ,it widens your pelvis, allowing baby to pass through.
