2) STILL ON SOCIAL MEDIA - DON'T POST YOUR HOLIDAY OR VACATION PICTURES
As wonderful as it's to take some pictures while on vacation for memories of our wonderful adventure while on vacation, also it's very dangerous to be quick in posting them while you are still on vacation. Even if you will have to post it while on vacation, on no occasion should you reveal that the pictures are your present adventures and fun while you are away from home ,don't answer any person trying to find out when and where you took those pictures, let the questions be unanswered until you are back home. The person asking may not have any evil agenda to burgle your home but thousands of people under you will see your comment and no one knows a potential thief
3) PICK A CAB A FEW KILOMETRES AWAY
If you have any reason to leave your home in the night probably for work like people on night duties ,or to go and greet a friend with the intention of sleeping over, or for any reason.Don't ask the cab or taxi driver to stop and pick you at the front of your house,it was gathered that some taxi drivers serve as informants for thieves since they are the one that pick you and drop you where you are going ,sometimes your discussion may reveal that you aren't sleeping at home that night, hence take a walk a little farther from the front of your house and then take the cab.
Also, if you are on permanent night duties, or you will have to be leaving your home to sleep away from home for some nights , don't stick to a particular taxi ,let the taxi you will be taking for that period vary to prevent the drivers from knowing that you are not sleeping at home.
4) USE CCTV BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE
Don't just put your camera only outside the compound to see what is going on around your compound, it may be bypassed and not being able to capture the potential thief especially if it's visible. But if you also have it inside ,sometimes it may be difficult for the potential thief to bypass it since they may not see it immediately they enter your home,if the potential thief knows that you have it both outside and inside ,it will deter them from making any attempt to burgle your home
5) KEEP POTENTIAL TOOLS AWAY AROUND YOUR HOME
There are some things we keep within our compound or outside our compound that potentially dangerous to our home and can be useful for the potential burglars . Sometimes those tools even attract them to make an attempt to burgle even when they don't even planning to do so before, but by sighting those things around our home they may want to take advantage of those tools and burgle. Example of such tools are ladder, hammers ,chisel, hook ,nails ,metals etc.If you are using those things in your compound or outside the compound, immediately you finish for the day take them to the store and lock the store till the next time you will use them. Don't make your home vulnerable.
6) DON'T SHOW OFF ,BE SECRETIVE
Many times we may think we just want to display what we have at home ,why should I keep it where people will not easily see it. You just bought a new 70" flat screen TV and right from the road people can see it. Your wardrobes can easily be seen by people passing in front of your bedroom. These display of your valuable can actually invite burglars into your home ,be very careful. Arrange or place your valuables in a away that people or potential thief can not easily see it from outside your house.
7) BE FRIENDLY TO YOUR NEIGHBOURS
Don't be alone ranger,don't be my family and I alone in the neighbourhood,it can make your home vulnerable for a potential burglar. When you are friend to your neighbours, that makes it easy for them to know when you are not at home or not and if they notice a strange movement in your home when you're not around, they can quickly call the police,but if you are not a friend to them ,they will not know your movements, whether you are at home or not ,this is risky.
8) GET STRONG DOORS ,WINDOWS AND LOCK
These are major ways to your house ,they are your primary security. Make sure you get the best and fix them to your home ,the ones that will be very difficult for any thief to easily break in. Ensure also to see that you lock them always ,whether you are at home or not
9) INSTALL MOVING LIGHT
This is a very good way of deterring potential burglars from coming close to your home. Get a light that sense movement in your compound or around your vicinity and comes up, any potential burglar will run away in when he suddenly notices a bright light coming up on him.
10) INSTALL BURGLAR ALARMS
This also serves the same purpose as that of moving light . The alarm starts making sound at presence of a stranger or potential burglar. This will surely cause the potential burglar to take to his heel and won't want to come back .
